INTRODUCTION
Thanks for visiting the Riverview High School (Sarasota, Florida), class of 1960 web site! Riverview, of course, already has a web site, including some alumni information, although little is available relating to our class.
This class was the very first to graduate from Riverview. The school was shiney new then, and certainly the best facility for a long distance. The courses were also a cut above most other high schools in the area, with advanced courses in many academic fields being offered at Riverview that were not otherwise available locally. We were excited about going to the new school, and I think that many of the faculty and staff felt the same way.
I have thought, for some time, that there was a need for an internet site of our own, where information about the class of 1960 could be posted and read, and had hoped that some kind soul would fill that need. No such luck. I hate to try it myself, having little talent for graphics and layouts and only modest knowledge of web site construction, but this is my effort towards that goal. Please feel free to duplicate this site if you would like. No need to ask. Just copy the files and modify them to your own liking. If you need any help, I'll be happy to do my best to provide it. I would be delighted if someone else would be willing to be webmaster.
I need to acknowledge the sources of much of the material used here. The graphics on the home page the original of the ram design and the view of the school from 1960 came from the Riverview HS yearbook, the Tartan, of 1960 (Judy Zeis, editor). This is also the source for almost all (unless otherwise identified) of the senior and junior pictures included here, the pictures of the faculty, and the photograph of the 1959-60 football team on the 1960 Happenings page. Since I scanned these from my own copy, I had to contend with some signatures and witty remarks (well...at least they were witty then) which ran across peoples faces. I hope my efforts at photo-editing are not too obvious. I have relied on Riverview High School Alumni Directory 1998 Sarasota, Florida (1999, Harris Publ. Co., Norfolk, Virginia, 329 pp.) for details about many of the alumni of our class, although quite a bit of the information originally taken from the directory has now been updated based on direct contacts with alumni.
Much thought has gone into the Alumni & Faculty section. This is the heart of this website in many ways. Here are as many current details of your (and my) old friends as I have been able to locate, as well as pictures of almost all of us from 1960. Many of us are a bit reticent about having the details of our lives floating around on the web for all to see. For this reason, I have password protected that section in a way that should be fairly easy for any of us to handle but difficult for others. I hope this is enough to make you comfortable. If its not, though, please let me know, and I will delete whatever information you want deleted. I am aware that some of the information is probably considerably out of date, and that some of the telephone numbers do not seem to match the addresses. Sandy Newell Schumaker deserves special recognition and thanks for her continuing efforts to improve the accuracy and completeness of the alumni listings.
Corrections, amendments, and additions are all welcome. Send them to me, Tim Ross, at:

(I will, by the way, use this convention for email addresses throughout the site, to help protect them from being automatically harvested by spam mailers. snoopy AT cschulz DOT com = snoopy@cschulz.com)You may also be interested in some other, related web sites that are available, in addition to that of the school itself. Particularly significant is the Sarasota High School class of 1960 site of one-time Riverview student, Marshall DuBois. Many of us know many of the alumni from SHS 60, having gone to one school or another with them for years. There is also a site devoted to the class of 1958 of Sarasota High School; if you attended SHS as a sophomore, as many of us did, you will recognize quite a few of the members of this class. If you were in the band at Riverview, you may be especially entertained by the Kilties own site. Closest to our own Riverview class is the site of the class of 1965. Finally, there is a site for the class of 1981 from Riverview. I expect that at least a few of these alumni are children of ours (although their class listing is still under construction)!
